Twice as hard.

I'm in debt with this blog. The truth is, I have the time to post but I don't have the will, the urge to do it. Writing (and writing something that is interesting) is really hard. And writing in another language (Portuguese is my first language) is twice as hard.

Despite the problems (unemployed, can't believe I still didn't get my car license, and still living with my parents...), I'm happy and I think that I finally find things I want to do, like cooking (to my kids, for us - G and me and for guests) and to do crafts, clothes, home projects and others stuff for me and my family. I was trying to make this blog in a fashion one, but I don't have the budget right now and definitely don't have creativity to work on with what I have in my closet.

Well I'll stop complaining - it's no good and show you guys what I was up to these days.

I'm addicted to Pinterest and there I discover a world of crafty things to do, DIY and others great ideas that I needed to keep me busy and creative. You can follow me here

I have tested a few recipes from Pinterest, some I didn't liked and some turn out to be great. And my favorites so far, I'll post one by one the ones that I love

No-cook Refrigerator Oatmeal

For this one I did a lot of changes to fit my taste, but if you want to try the original recipe (she shows various versions of flavors), you can find it here. I love to eat at breakfast on a hot summer day (in my case, 300 day a year). :P

Step 1: Assemble these ingredients & supplies:
  • 1/4 cup uncooked old fashioned rolled oats
  • 1/2 box of Soy cream or 1/4 cup Greek yogurt
  • 1/3 cup Soy milk (I used soy milk, but any kind will work)
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons Vitalon or other cereal
  • half pint (1 cup) baby food jars
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • 1/4 cup fruit (diced or spread - strawberries, bananas, mango, apple, etc)
* To Gabriel's version, I used only cocoa powder (1 tablespoon) for flavor because he don't like to eat solid fruit. And I used Neston instead of Vitalon.

The original recipe have chia seeds, but instead I used a cereal called Vitalon - come with six flavors: rice, rice and oatmeal, oatmeal, oatmeal and corn, corn and a mix of 6 cereals.

You can use Greek yogurt, but if you prefer you can use regular one or like me, soy cream. The blogger have a post with easy instructions for straining regular yogurt to make Greek yogurt.

As for the baby food jars, find them at supermarkets and grocery stores (mayonnaise or others small jars will do just fine).

Step 2: Add oats, milk, yogurt, and cereal to jar, along with desired sweeteners (I used honey) or flavors (see options below).

Step 3: Put a lid on the jar and shake to combine. (I use white and beige plastic jar lids sized to fit canning jars--they last longer than the metal tops and rims that come with the jars, and they are easier to screw on and off, I don't where to find those - they are old).

Step 4: Add fruit and stir gently until combined.

Step 5: Place in fridge overnight and up to 2 days; maybe longer depending on the type and ripeness of the fruit. The non-banana varieties have been good after 4 days for me.

Mine is the one with the white lid and strawberries, the other is Gabriel's.

Let me know if you also tried, share your opinions.

Clara turned 6

I apologize for letting the blog without updates, it is because I am very busy with my commitments I'll try to keep this page updated more often. Now that's a lie... Well Gabriel would say that, wouldn't he?.

Well, in January it was the birthday of my niece, Maria Clara. She lives in Parana, southern Brazil and I went there to help my sister with the party preparations. We did all the decorating ourselves, including the fake cake made of biscuit, - hate that cake, can't stand even look at it hahaha darnnn biscuit. We had less than a month, and I had never done anything like that. We suffer and struggle but in the end everything worked out. We decide to do a simple pink ballerina theme, because Clara is a ballerina herself - sooocute. Keep it simple because it was easier and also because it was a more intimate party. Hope you enjoy. Here are some photos:

 She loves to jump.

Lazy weekend

I spent my weekend at Gabriel's home. We watch some bad horror movies and a bunch of series that we love: Vampire Diaries, Ringer, Community and Big Bang Theory... we let it accumulate until it's Saturday, so we can watch it together. Yay. I took those photos at his building lobby. When we are in the way to buy snacks and sweets to eat while we watching.

"I just might die with a smile on my Face after all"

I don't feel like wrinting too much today, I'm a little tired and sleepy. I wish I have good news to share with you guys. Here in my town it's raining a lot and winter is starting early. My cousin's wedding is in May, and we need to go out and buy a dress, but with all this rain is getting hard to find courage to leave the house. Why am I so lazy? I always need a motivation, maybe Gabriel can help, giving me a reason to leave the house.

So long wait for Wednesday food

The 2011 last months and the early 2012 months are a complicated, busy and hard ones for me. My grandma almost past away, my cousin's daughter, born at 34 weeks, her tiny lungs struggled to get the oxygen her brain and body needed, but now she is fine and at home with her family. My niece is being bullied at school by a boy, and at ballet class by her teacher. And that was the reason I didn't upload for so long. Despites of all problems, my life is full of joy and love. Gabriel are always by my side, supporting me, helping me in everythng I need. Sometimes I wanna thank him for his love and everything he's done for me, and my way to do that is cooking - very masterchef of me, not really - and thank goodness, he truly appreciate my cooking. This time I made a lettuce salad and rice with carrot and condiments.

For the salad:
1 small romaice lettuce heart, torn
1 small mesclun lettuce, torn
mizuna leaves, to adorn
½ small onion, peeled picked and boiled
1 tomato, picked
basil leaves, picked

For the seasoning:
2 garlic cloves, peeled and crushed
60ml apple vinegar
90ml olive oil
salt and black pepper

In a small bowl, whisk together the garlic, vinegar and oil, then stir in three-quarters of a teaspoon of salt and some black pepper. Toss the salad ingredients in a large mixing bowl, add the dressing, toss again gently, taste for seasoning, adorn with the mizuna lettuce leaves and serve. Or you can serve them separately, if you prefere.
For the rice:
I did 2 cups of rice in 400ml of water, and cooked with grated carrot, picked basil and curry, salt and garlic paste.

For the beans:
I cooked 100g of beans in 300ml of water, with salt and garlic paste. The brazilian way to do beans.
